When I first heard about John’s 330 series Nissan Cedric I had no idea what to expect. I was told of air bags and a V8 engine in a 33 year old Japanese classic. I couldn't quite get my head around it. Then I saw some photos – and my jaw dropped. I had to see it. I had to shoot it.
John’s 1979 Nissan Cedric is simply amazing. The V8 I once rolled my eyes at is a VH41DE that emits a sound similar to that of the best fireworks display you have ever seen. The air bag system isn't fast and erratic, it’s quiet and elegant. It allows this masterpiece to navigate the earthquake-torn Christchurch roads while looking this good. While some wouldn't consider the car ‘fast’, it’s more than enough. It’s the perfect street car, combining classic looks with modern power & reliability.
My camera and I have seen some amazing cars in the last few years and – although I haven’t given this comment much consideration – I think this is one of the best yet. The amount of time John has spent with this car, crafting it into the piece of art you see below, has been immense. The planning, sourcing, researching and development of ideas and parts has been extensive. And the John had in his mind five years ago has been achieved.

There's going to be a lot of hate because of the stance and air bags (we had a bit of a war over people's opinions on Stance here on Oppo about four months ago), but I for one love this! Perfectly done swap, I love it when you keep it in the family like that and a VH series V8 in an old Japanese land yacht just makes so much sense.

That's a big frickin' car by Japanese, or anybody's, standards. Unique.
Thanks for the post.

Love it. Not sure about the bags (not my thing) but everything else besides that is a dream for me.

My opinion on air bags is similar too but somehow it all works with this car. These things were never fast so a big V8 and adjustable suspension seems to work rather well.

Love it!
The Cedric does nothing for me stock, but done right they're amazing.

I don't mind the ultra low style, and certainly with bags it's possible to get over bumps occasionally compared to a static drop. I guess my issue is that with power like that you'd want handling to match, something not TYPICALLY obtained with bags.
But... if its a build all about appearance, that is a BEAUTIFUL engine and bay, and certainly sounds is part of appearance. I'm so conflicted :P

Hey.. It's a Cedric.. it'll never never NEVER handle good however you put it :) Friggin metric tons o' power and bags is THE perfect way to go with it.. It's a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious cruiser/burnout car :) it SHOULD be grounded to the ground.
